Our first time on the EuroTrain took us 2 hours-- from Venice to the Cinque Terre....
Italy's little secret on the Riviera. Cinque Terre, Cinque meaning 5, Terre meaning Land. The "5 Lands" is composed of 5 small villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Very few roads can be found in the Cinque Terre. Most people choose to travel by boat or train..... or, if you are like us.....be the few that choose to hike the five towns via a mountainous (monstrous) trail. Over the vast hills, and down steep valleys...If you look really close in the below photo (taken from Monterosso where we were staying) you can see the other 4 towns along the coast we were going to hike to on day 7. Can you say crazy?

Finally Arriving...we toured the Castillo (Castle) and headed back on the trail...
....making our way to Corniglia.
With not much to see in Corniglia we made our way to Manarola. This trail was supposed to be closed due to the torrential rains the Cinque Terre received in 2011. Much of the trail was washed away but we conquered the hike anyway! So glad we did....as tough as it was...
After stopping to enjoy some local produce, and talking to the locals we found out that the trail stopped here. We were unable to make it to the last village because of the damages done to the trail. (I have to say what a blessing in disguise that was!) 7 1/2 miles uphill was plenty....and we called it a day.
Cinque Terre was one of my favorites!! Fare thee well, dear Cinque Terre....until we meet again!
