Date Night with the Elmore's

Not your typical Saturday Night....after dinner at Texas Roadhouse we had a fun night with the Elmore's at the Roller Derby.  It took some getting used to taking in the atmosphere and figuring out the game-- but by the end found ourselves getting into it and rooting for the underdogs!

Homecoming 2013

Northridge High School Homecoming 2013
McKennah and Erik Aviles

Erik moved from Arizona this year, and he said that McKennah was the FIRST one to make him feel welcome in his new school.  He is such a good kid, and quite the gentlemen, I was happy he chose to take my McKennah to Homecoming.

With his family being new to the area, he did not have a job, and his parents just starting their new jobs, money was tight in the Aviles home.  He told McKennah earlier in the week that he did not think that he could afford a corsage, and to please not get him a boutonniere.  So imagine her surprise when he came to pick her up, with both a corsage and boutonniere in hand.

He said he spent all day Saturday performing magic tricks in front of Target, Sam's, and Walgreen's.  A little out of the ordinary, but it got the job done.  It was a perfect way to start off her fun little night.

After their day date to the Hogle Zoo, there was very little time left to get ready.  So after a little begging (but only once)  Darren jumped in to help, because what wouldn't he do for his little girl?

I hate it that this is her last Homecoming....ever!  But am ever so happy it was one she'll never forget.  She looked beautiful, she felt beautiful, and Erik made sure it was a Homecoming he felt she deserved.

Syracuse Storm!!

This year we went back and forth on what we were going to do with the twins and football.  We contemplated moving them up to play with kids in their own grade.....but with Jaret weighing in at a hefty 84lbs, and Ayden at 80lbs.  We decided another "older but lighter" year would be better.  Coach Walsh started a new job, and was unable to coach-- so Steve Harris took the reins, and brought in some fresh talent with him.

Jaret after 6 years was replaced at QB by Ethan Giacalone, and I couldn't have been happier!  Jaret saw more action, and was back to being the kid that loved football, and unafraid to play.  He played at Running Back, Cornerback, Linebacker, and Safety.  Ayden played Cornerback, Noseguard and Wide Receiver.  It was a fun year, a lot of "close calls" but a losing year, they didn't seem to mind.  They were happy to play, be on the field, and among good friends.

Love these boys:  Connor Coleman, Alec Bolingbroke, Caden Harris, and Ethan Giacalone.

BYU vs. Utah

The BYU/Utah game was in Provo this year, and after many years of avoiding the trip down south, Darren and I decided to head down.  The Holy War will sadly be taking a two year hiatus.  So we were glad we were able to go down.  It was a pretty late game, starting at 8:00, so we decided to make a weekend out of it and stayed the night.  Good thing!   The game didn't get over until 12:15.

And what a good game it was!  Utes won 20-13.  With a record of  3-1, their only loss in a very close game with Oregon State.  Hoping they continue to do well.  I love this time of year, and I love my UTES!

Last year of everything....

After 6 years in Young Women's I was released TWO WEEKS before McKennah went in as a little Beehive.

And now,  here I am, posting pics of her "LAST GIRL'S CAMP EVER"....sad story.  McKennah and mom bonding at girl's camp was just not meant to be.....

McKennah was given the task of handing out awards-- and I heard she did a fantastic job!  She made each girl feel special and loved by her thoughtful remarks and her trying to award each girl with a reward that truly suited them.

The girl's awesome leaders:  Karyn Smith, Maren Skidmore, Stefanie Cisney, Amy Anderson, Shellie Harvey, Dana Craig, Julie Clark, Jen Qualls, Julie Johnson, Tiffany Olson, and Denise Seegmiller

And her new "little sister" Paige our new neighbor's from next door.

SLC Urban Goose Chase....

Team Mighty Gooser's
Curt, Cheryl, Kate, Darren, Me, and Steven

One of the funnest things we have done in a looooonnnggg time.  Cheryl was looking on Groupon one day and came across the Urban Goose Chase.  It's an Amazing Race type of deal.  There was over 200 people participating-- about 30 teams.  Unlike the Amazing Race it is not a checkpoint to checkpoint game.  Here we were just asked to start somewhere downtown.  You were to download a free phone app and when the race began, a list of about 50 tasks downloaded to your phone, with a corresponding point value-- you were to complete them, take a picture as proof, and after the 3 hour allotted time frame the game turned off and whomever had the most points won $300!

Sweet Kate, had the undaunting task of guiding us and documenting all of our tasks.  She is in only a few of the pics.  Love you, Kate!

Tasks such as....."Captain of the Castle" asking a stranger to help us form a 3 tiered pyramid, complete with a Captain Morgan pose.

Doing a cannonball into a pool....

"Close Quarters"....Team bonding in a tight space.....

"Monkeying Around".....

"Switching Sides".....

"Namaste"....getting 3 strangers to participate with us doing yoga.

"Gilgal"....locating this sculpture garden and finding Joseph Smith's face

"KISS Me".....painting a team members face as a KISS band member

"Up"....finding 10 balloons or more, and acting as if you were flying away

"Cock Fight"....finding two willing and able strangers to have a good 'ol fashioned chicken fight.

"How Low Can You Go".....finding something to limbo under.

"Music to My Ears"....Using anything besides real instruments to form our own street band.

Those were just a few of my favorites.....

And, would you look at that.....WE WON!

I love to win :)  so glad that these folks do too!
