Our "Amazing Race".....

This month we celebrated our 16th Wedding anniversary! It was Darren's year to plan our date night, and so the day before our anniversary I had put together this "Amazing Race" for my man!

The first clue read: "Find the blockbuster, 40 yr. old....there may be more than one, but only one has your clue." (The clue was found taped to the front of a 40 Year Old Virgin video.)

Darren worked at Blockbuster while we were dating. Before his mission we decided I would date other people and whatever happens, happens. Well.... the weekend before he left on his mission we were both at "the Bay." He with his friends, me with mine. At the end of the night, my friend had caught him in a corner with some chic! A little (a lotta) heartbroken, I had always teased him that I wasn't jealous, and why would I be.....she was a 40 yr. old who liked cats!

Hence, the lady with her cats.

This clue threw Darren off just a little bit. I did not enjoy his shaved head, so he thought that the clue was referring to his head as a "pumpkin." But while we were dating and his house was being built -- he and his family lived in a rental house in Layton. It had wall to wall orange carpet and his mom always referred to it as "the pumpkin."

The night of "the Bay" was our last "night out" before his mission, and the restaurant "Camelot" (now "the Castle" reception center in Layton)was our first date when he got home.

(Spying on Darren as he found his 3rd clue)

Whenever you take home a "doggy bag" from the Roof restaurant, they wrap your food up in foil in the shape of a swan. Darren took me there, after he had been home from his mission about 2 weeks, one of my fave's!

That clue read: "I wasn't "foiled," when you faked your way through a show when we were dating. But sometimes your baby blues are hypnotizing. Your next stop is the person's house, who we were eye to eye with that night, as well."

Key words were "faked" and "hypnotizing"....while we were dating, we doubled with a few other couples and went to a hypnotist. 3 of us were called up on stage, and ALL of us, FAKED it! I remember looking into Darren and our friend Brian Kinne's eyes, and trying my hardest not to burst out laughing. That clue led him to the house of Brian Kinne.

While we were dating Darren had played competitive volleyball, going to the Utah Summer games, playing at Weber State. He loved it, and he loved his "Spank Me" shirt. I would say out of a 7-day work week....Darren would wear it 4 of the days out of 7. He wore it until it died. And when we did finally bury it. He cut out the logo, and it withered away in our "change" jar, until eventually it disappeared. This isn't identical, to Darren's disappointment they do not make them anymore, so this was my own "attempted" version.

This clue said, "Your next task is to open the present, and take it to the house of someone who will truly appreciate it, when you show it (the shirt) to them."

(Darren walking into Tyler Elmore's office with his shirt!)

Tyler and Kristin Elmore were my witnesses of just how much Darren loved, and how often Darren wore, that stinkin' shirt!

What???? A fork? Wrapped up in the clue from Tyler and Kristin was this fork. Before Darren's mission we had gone to dinner with the Elmore's to the spaghetti factory. Darren had asked for the best seat in the house, and they sat us outside on the balcony to watch the sunset. It was fun, and it was just the four of us. We were always goofing off and Darren had thrown a piece of food at me, so I grabbed his napkin off his lap and hucked it over the balcony-- not a second later, had he snatched my fork out of my hand and sent it flying over as well. --Oh, the memories.

His last clue read, "Next, you must unscramble the letters on all your clues to spell a five letter word that will lead you to your next destination"

Spelling the word "Impact" meaning Impact Guns. Darren's idea of the "ideal" date.

We have had our concealed weapons permits for about 2 yrs now, and did not have a gun. So I went out on a limb, and purchased one and we spent a few hours on the shooting range.

Check out those shots! Watch out! The Scott's are packing heat.

We have had some good times, it was fun to relive, and reminisce about things that we haven't thought about for a long time.

Looking forward to 16 more!
